With the continued progression of the club in so many areas, governance is becoming key for the future of the club.
As most of you have seen recently the club’s board has increased from Wayne Stephens (Chairman), Peter Tiffin (CEO), Neil Stephens, David Cradock (President) to now having Barry Avraam, Shaun Griggs and Joe Papa.
From the increase of the club’s board of directors it was discussed and agreed that another board/ forum was needed to oversee the excellent work being done with the club’s Academy.
The Academy has achieved category B status with the FAW and are one of two clubs with this status in west Wales, closest in the east being Briton Ferry and the other in the west being Haverfordwest.
With the decision being made that the Academy needed a forum/board to oversee and support the staff with the future developments and plans a chairman and vice chairman were first to be elected. With two members already involved with the club that have a background and experience that’s needed to head up the forum/board it was an easy process.
Club CEO Peter Tiffin and club vice chairman Rob Griffiths would be chairman and vice chairman of the Academy. Between the both of them they have a large amount of experience with numerous sports and their governance. Academy vice chairman Rob Griffiths added “My initial motivation for joining the club 6 years ago was to support the development of the Academy and ensure young players in the area had the best opportunities to train, play and develop. I am delighted with how far we have come but we are ambitious and the new forum will be a catalyst for further growth.”
After the appointments of Tiffin & Griffiths a meeting was held with two senior academy members Jon Garcia & Kevin Francis to look at what areas within the Academy were needing the most support.
Following the meeting two further appointments were made in Mathew Dalziel (Academy Secretary) & Tudur Hallam (Academy Parent Representative); these two appointments add further experience within areas that were discussed at the senior Academy meeting.
Mathew Dalziel spoke on his appointment “As the commercial director of ASW Property Services Ltd being a forum member allows me to assist in the governance of the Academy and contribute my experience and expertise helping to enhance the business practices and financial sustainability while supporting the development of the football academy and nurturing young talent."
Tudur Hallam, professor at Swansea University plus a trustee and board member of the Arts Council of Wales added “my son has been at the Academy for three enjoyable years, I look forward to working with others to develop the academy, building on the excellent work that has been done so far."
