Club Statement: Stebonheath Park Lease

I am delighted to announce that after several years of negotiations with Llanelli Town council Stebonheath Management committee and the Town council clerk, at the ORDINARY MEETING of LLANELLI TOWN COUNCIL held remotely and at The Old Vicarage, Town Hall Square, Llanelli on Wednesday, 5th February 2025, a motion was passed for negotiations to start between Llanelli Town AFC and the Town council clerk, in preparation for Llanelli Town AFC taking over the lease at Stebonheath Park.

Llanelli Town Council shall retain a usage of the ground for the benefit of the community proportional to their financial commitment. For a period of no more than three years we would look to provide this allowance to Evans and Williams to allow them time to find alternative arrangements.

This decision will now allow the club to find grants to upgrade the facility, enabling Stebonheath to go green.

We have already been granted up to £50K if promoted via the Welsh Grounds improvement grant and Football Association of Wales. This grant will provide 2 x 16 seater dugouts, hard standing to go between our disability area and the Jock Stein Bar located in the main stand, shelter to cover one section of the Gilbert Lloyd stand and for upgrading the floodlights to LED.

The club have also applied for other grants and are awaiting the decisions from the various panels.

We as a club have no interest in removing any club from Stebonheath Park and in fact, we want this facility to be available to clubs, who demonstrate ambition to play at Tier 3 of Welsh football. It is imperative that Stebonheath Park hosts the maximum number of games available to ALL the teams within our club and we will continue to think of ways to meet these ambitions including looking at installing a 3G surface or even a partial synthetic surface, the latter allowing up to 2/3rds more games at Stebonheath Park.

We are hoping to get these negotiations wrapped up at an early stage and put in place a lease that is beneficial to all concerned at Llanelli Town AFC, the community and the wider region.
